The Fitness Mindset

How do you develop the fitness mindset? Mindset skills are a HUGE part of Skill Based Fitness.

Whether you want to lose some weight, gain some muscle, improve your performance or just lead a healthy life, your success hinges on developing a solid foundation of mindset skills.

Actually, we’d go so far as to say your success or failure has little to do with nutrition and training, though they are still important (yep, that’s why we still have pages dedicated to them) and everything to do with your psychology.

Of course merely spending time in the gym, or diligently tracking what you eat doesn’t always translate to results, because you mind is a constant influence.

What else do you think prevents you from getting to the gym consistently in the first place?

Or convinces you it’s OK to cheat on your eating just this one time?

This isn’t to say that nutrition, training and recovery are important aspects to consider in any physical pursuit, that’s why we’re still giving you information on them.

More importantly managing your expectations and how you approach each of these components from the mental side of things is definitely the catalyst for your success.

Heres a running list of the reasons most people fail to make a physical change happen:

1. They Don’t Develop a Good Foundation of Appropriate Skills.

2. They’re Unaware of or Don’t Work on Improving Their Habits.

3. They Have Bad Adherence to Whatever the Plan is (or worse, no plan at all).

4. They Have Unrealistic Expectations.

5. They Have a Short-Term Outlook on the Process of Change.

6. They Haven’t Developed Sound Mindfulness Practices.

7. They Have Negative or Unsupportive Preconceived Belief Patterns

8. They Underestimate the Importance of Relationships.

8. They Underestimate the Contributions of Their Environment.
